Ok, so I'm generally not one who complains, leaves negative comments, or rants about a company after a bad experience. Yes, there are some exceptions. Well, Interwatches is one of them. Earlier this year I bought my wife a Ladies Rolex from Interwatches via eBay. We have been very happy with the watch, but Interwatches was odd to deal with.
For an added $120 Interwatches offered a water resistance test, along with a water resistance guarantee. I bought this because my wife wanted to swim with the watch. Once I won the bid, I got an automatic invoice from Interwatches. I wrote them to ask for the water proof test, and went back and forth before finally getting an email from them telling me to just add the extra $120 to my payment, which I did.
The watch arrived, but did not include the certificate. Also, it arrived a little earlier than the delay that "water proof test" should have added. I called and they assured me the test had been done, and they promptly sent me a certificate. It left me wondering.
As it turned out, my wife didn't swim with the watch for several months. Then, when we were up on a lake in the SC mountains, she went swimming. When she got out of the water, the face of the watch was completely fogged. Annoyed (and, yes, suspicious that it was somehow her fault-- a fault of my own), I checked the screw-down crown, which was firmly in place. I unscrewed it to see if the seal might be visibly damaged, but couldn't really tell. I secured it again, and told her not to swim with it again until we could return it.
When we returned home, I called Interwatches. They acknowledged that we had a guarantee. They told me to ship the watch to them right away, and they would take care of it.
A few days later I received a call from them. The agent, clearly foreign and with halting English, told me that their jeweler determined that the crown had not been screwed down completely, and this was the cause of the water breach. He explained that it was therefore not covered, and would cost me $85 to be serviced. Now, I am 100% certain that this is not true. I'm not 99.9% certain, but 100%. I checked that thing. I've owned a Rolex with a screw-down crown for 20 years, and I know how it works-- this is why I checked the thing when it happened (because I wasn't so sure she knew it).
I went ballistic. I explained to him the events, and told him that I had in fact checked the watch immediately upon discovering the problem. I insisted that there was NO WAY this was true, and that he needed to fix my watch under the $120 guarantee. We went round and round for 20 minutes, and he finally told me he would speak with his manager, who was conveniently "out."
When he called back the next day, I stood my ground. In fact, I insisted that if he refused to fix my watch under the warranty, that he should refund the $120 to me. He could take the $85 out of the refund. Again, he had to call me back.
Then I began to think: they've got my watch held hostage; it's only $85 to get it back, fixed. Standing on principle at that point might just cost me the watch. Then I hatched a plan: pay for the repair via American Express, then dispute the payment when the watch arrives. I called Amex to ask them about the situation. They explained to me that, even if I disagreed with the $85 extortion fee, so long as I agreed to pay it initially, I couldn't really dispute it-- not without lying about it.
The upshot is that I wasn't going to lie about the situation-- that was what they were doing, and I wasn't going to stoop to their level. I decided to pay the $85 just to get the watch back. I've chalked it up to experience, and I'll never do business with Interwatches again. Feel free to let me know if you have had a different experience.
Yes, but the question is: is the watch authentic to begin with? Please don't take this the wrong way; am a watch expert and have been for 20+ years and I can assure you some of the recent fakes out there make me wonder a couple of minutes. They are that good. I'd love to know if you had proof it was authentic.
ReplyDelete@al: I was initially hesitant about it being genuine, but I based my decision on their overall feedback score, which was/is stellar. They sell a ton of Rolex on eBay, and there are zero complaints about the authenticity of the watches. I have no doubts about the authenticity of the watch (a 1985 Ladies Datejust).

ReplyDeleteI am so glad I found this blog! The general public needs to know that something is not right with Interwatches. I do not want to go on and on about all the details. I think this will give someone enough info about this company. After this transaction was turned into a claim no one heard from Interwatches and before that it was put off story after put off story. I am very thankful to Pay Pal for getting my money back!! Interwatches wrote below, after many other stories, that when they received the refund from Fed Ex in 7 to 10 business days they would refund my money. Well, this time passed and no communication or refund. Like I said in the emails to Pay Pal. If things go wrong with a purchase from this company you are in BIG TROUBLE. Ebayers need to really pay attention to anyone on Ebay with less than a 100%. Read and listen to the negitive feedback. Interwatches looks good on the surface but if you read the negitive feed back you should realize that if things go wrong you are in BIG TROUBLE.

Since 01/11/08 I have been told so many stories I have lost count. I can certainly tell you that this company has lost my trust and confidence in the way they have handled this. I will look to other and better Ebay rated Sellers in the future. I made the mistake of not listening to the negitive feed back and realizing that if anything goes wrong I will be in trouble and here I am. Sometimes I have to learn a lesson more than once! You really learn more about who the Seller is when there is a problem. It is easy for both parties when things go well. Any help you can provide I would certainly appreciate. Also, I have only so many days to report this to my credit card company. I do not know how all of this really works any help would be appreciated. Thank You! Robert <><

I have been very patient with Interwatches. I paid for this item on 01/09/08 and today is 02/01/08 (twenty one days). The shipment was lost on 01/11/08, the date the item was supposed to be delivered (Am delivery). I contacted Interwatches and the claim process began. You have known for sometime now that I have paid you in full and the product you sent to me never made it to me. At this point the merchants I deal with on Ebay would have gladly refunded my money. With that being said I am due a full refund at this point. It is Interwatches responsibilty to figure out the rest. Thank You! Robert <><

Dear Robert, we did not ask Fedex how much the check would be this time. They usually send us a $100 refund check for lost items, no matter what it is inside, as they do not insure jewellry, and the top amount they refund is $500. It seems this time they decided to do the $500 refund check. We provide the full insurance on all timepiecies, no matter what they are worth, through a third-party company that is called Malca Amit, and they are the ones who will pay the rest of the $2,400.00. They were also the carrier we selected to ship the item through FEDEX.
From Seller: Interwatches.com Inc. on 2/1/2008 10:08 PST
Dear Robert, the only way for us to assure that our insurance company will cover the loss is to have the FEDEX check in our hands. Fedex will send us a $100 check. With that proof we will go to our insurance company and start the process to get the full amount refunded. We are willing to refund you the money in full, even though we still don't have the payment from the insurance company, but we need the proof of loss on behalf of FedEx, which means we need to receive the FedEx check in the first place. Fedex delivered it on January 26th but we have not received it yet. I am afraid this is the appropriate claim procedure to solve the issue and it is time consuming. We cannot refund your money at this point, even if Fedex accepts the loss, the only proof is to get that check. We are so sorry about this unfortunate situation, this is very unlikely to happen. We understand your position and try to put ourselves in your place, this must be really frustrating to you. We are asking you please not to blame our company, as we have been following the processes and been taking care of your case ever since this happened, and been following up on you on every single piece of news that we have had. We are a very reputable family company. We understand that we should have already received the check, but the fact is that have not. We will keep you updated on the status of the claim and will stand behind it until it gets solved.

P.S. I expect the other $500 on 02/04/08 for a total of $2,900! Robert <><
From Buyer: Blades For Sale, LLC. on 2/1/2008 09:41 PST
I decided to call Fed Ex this morning to see how much the refund check was for. What a suprise, it is for only $500. So now I am waiting for Interwatches to receive a $500 refund check on a $2,900 order. When I place the order I was told all purchases are shipped fully insured. I also have several emails from Interwatches that state the same. I have now been lied to on several occasions by Interwatches and I have no confidence in what they say. I want a credit to my Pay Pal account today for $2,400 or I will be forced to escalate this dispute to a claim today. Robert <><
From Buyer: Blades For Sale, LLC. on 1/31/2008 14:49 PST
I expect my full refund by 02/04/08! If I do not have my Pay Pal credit on 02/04/08 AM, I will escalate this to a claim status with Pay Pal for starters. The USPS delivers 6 days a week. It does not take 10 business days to receive a check in the mail. I regulary contacted Fed Ex about this shipment and I knew on the 26 they had mailed a check. On Monday when I talked to Fernando at Interwatches he said there was still no resolution with Fed Ex. I called back Tuesday & Wednesday to give Fernando the chance to tell me the truth and I still got the same story no resolution with Fed Ex. I have noticed on Ebay this company has 14 negitive or neutural feedbacks and on everyone on them they say it was the customer not them in the wrong! I find this very troubling and one respondent said they threaten you with negitive feed back if you give them negitive feedback. I say all of this to lay the foundation that when things go wrong with a transaction, with this company everybody is at fault but them! Robert <><

It is true that the package was shipped on 1/10/08 and that is was lost by Fedex. We started a claim as requested by the courier which came to an end declaring the package as oficially lost on 01/26/08. That same day, the claim check was shipped to us but we were not notified so I called Fedex and they stated that the claim check takes 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS to arrive at our office. As soon as that happens, the refund will be issued as previously arranged. For further information, please refer directly to Fedex Customer Service office. We are deeply sorry about what happened to the timepiece during the shipping as well as the time that it takes to get the claim check from Fedex. Unfortunately we cannot take responsibility for Fedex procedures and we will refund the payment as soon as we receive the claim check from Fedex. Interwatches.com

The item was shipped out Fed Ex on 01/10/08 Next Day, tracking number 949744022020. The package was lost by Fed Ex and the claim was paid on 01/26/08. As of Today Fernando Taff at Interwatches is still telling me that he needs to check with Fed Ex and his shipping dept to see is there has been a resolution. I felt like I was getting the run around so I called Fed Ex and the two stories do not match up. Fed Ex says they have sent Interwatches a refund and Interwatches says no resolution. Please help me with this situation. I have no Watch and Interwatches has my original payment and the refund from Fed Ex! Thank You! Robert <><
PS: I ended up buying a watch on Ebay from Highlinetime. The service is excellant, great follow up and they have a 100% rating on Ebay.
I have a 100% rating on Ebay.(bladesforsale) Have I ever had an unhappy customer? Yes I have, but I handled the problem in such a way that the customer was still happy and gave me good feed back. It is all about customer service and doing the right thing.

@al The watch is authentic, and has since been to Rolex (not an authorized center, but Rolex themselves).
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Interwatches feedback lately?
ReplyDeleteThere is alot of red and I bet alot of the people who left green found out too late that they now own a watch that has counterfeit parts or something. What is most telling is the fact that for every single red mark not once were they in the wrong.
If you look at Highlinetime on Ebay you will notice alot of Rolex transactions and not one red mark.
Buyer Beware!!
Robert <><
INTERWATCHES IS A HORRIBLE COMPANY AND
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM. I bought my husband a vintage Rolex from them and it never kept the right time from the day I received it. I sent it back to them three times and still it never kept the right time. Three days after the warranty was up, they told me that it is "my problem, not theirs". They were awful to deal with and now my husband is stuck with a watch that does not
work.
The Ebay rating system can be tricky to understand. What appears to be a high rating may not be so. This is the case with interwatches. I have learned to look at the negative feedback to see how the seller responds to it. With Interwatches, every negative feedback reply ends the same. Nothing is ever interwatches fault.
ReplyDeleteBuyer Beware!!!
I wonder how many customers left good feedback only to find out later they have been scammed. interwatches scams have been very profitable for them and they are smart enough to fool Ebay. Think about this, if you have alot of transactions on Ebay and you only scam someone every now and then you can get away with it.

I've just written an email to cancel a purchase of a Rolex watch which I wanted to purchase from Interwatches.com. To cut a long story short I wanted to pay a 10% deposit and the outstanding amount in a week when I 'd have the full amount. See their terms and conditions 1.5 its clearly stated there that you can do this.
ReplyDeleteSo I was shocked when I received an email stating that I would have to send 30% and the rest later. After I'd just set the wheels in motion and set up the wire transfer. I'm glad I read this blog sometime ago and I just posted here to inform others don't be fooled by the low prices. These people are just interested in the green and not watches or people.
The wire transfer has been stopped.
Sad but true
Stay, stay, stay away from Interwatches.
ReplyDeleteOk, here is my story.
I decided after exhausting research to purchase a watch (Omega Planet Ocean 42mm) from Interwatches. I had seen this blog and maybe one other negative one, so I decided to roll the dice.
I offered (which you can do on their website) 2600.00 and they accepted the bid. That is a great price by the way. After paying and reading their shipping blurb, it stated that the item if purchased would be overnighted by FEDEX for free if purchased before 3:30. Great, it will make it here by my birthday. I was very happy at this point. All good things must come to an end.
I did not get a shipping notice later that day and began to wonder about it. I called Interwatches and asked why my watch hadn’t shipped. They told me that it was due to ship out on Wednesday (I ordered it on Monday). I told them that this was unacceptable as their website clearly states that it will go out that day and that it is guaranteed overnight. The customer service (or lack thereof) guy then changed the story and said that the watch had been sent up to NYC for a watch show. Ok fine, then send me another one from the store in Miami. Then he said that all of their Planet Oceans (POs) had been sent to NYC for the show. I asked what happens if they sell my watch. Oh that won’t happen we made sure that they held your watch when your order came in.
At this point I just wanted the damn watch, so I said fine send it to me from NYC. They agreed but said that it would just be the watch as they left all the boxes and papers in Miami for the show (FISHY.) I was getting pissed now.
I had my wife call and pretend to order a PO from the store while I was talking to the guy on the phone and until the two guys figured it out they said they had one in stock. Once they figured out what was going on the original guy hung up on me.
So I tear into the second guy, I said look give me another 500.00 off the watch (a long shot, but hey) or get me the watch by tomorrow. He stated again that the watch and the papers and box were in different places. I said ok do this, FEDEX the watch and the Box and papers to me today and they will arrive on the same truck to me tomorrow. I then stated that if there was any disparity between the serial number or anything funny there was going to be hell to pay.
At this point the sales guys had the nerve to say that he did not feel comfortable selling to me and said he cancelled my order and then hung up on me.
I have not seen the refund, but it has not been 24hrs yet. I will repost when I see it.
Please do not do business with this company. They may have good prices, but they are shady and have no problem lying straight to you, how can you trust that??????????
Any luck with the refund?
